Mission
Our Mission is to make a difference in the lives of people living with HIV and AIDS by providing an opportunity for all team members to raise money and ride in an effort to build community and support and also increase awareness about HIV/AIDS both locally and globally.
The Ride
On June 3-9, 2012, the largest group from Colorado ever to participate in an AIDS/LifeCycle will bike the 545 miles from San Francisco to Los Angeles to benefit the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the HIV/AIDS-related services of the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center. It's an awe inspiring journey and one that everyone should experience in their lifetime, whether by riding, working on one of the Roadie teams, supporting a rider, or just experiencing the ride vicariously through the internet and video. Join Team Colorado in this endeavor and do what you can to end AIDS and restore hope to millions.
The Reason
AIDS/LifeCycle is designed to advance the shared interests of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center and to end the pandemic and human suffering caused by AIDS and address the widespread misconception that HIV/AIDS are no longer a problem – in fact more people are living with HIV/AIDS today than ever before, which means a much greater need for services.
In the world today a total of 39.5 million people now live with HIV/AIDS. 2.2 million of them are under the age of 15. Every day 12,000 people contract HIV – that's 500 every hour and at least half of all new infections are among people under the age of 25. There are approximately 1.3 million people living with HIV/AIDS in the United States and it is estimated that a quarter of them don't even know it. Since the start of the AIDS epidemic, 1.5 million Americans have been infected with HIV and more than 550,000 have died of AIDS.
The Team
This year, our goal is to have 80 Cyclists and Roadies registered for the event to join over 2,500 other participants from all over the world. Each Cyclist is required to raise a minimum of $3,000 which will help the beneficiaries continue to provide the critical services and education needed to meet the growing needs of our community and also increase awareness and knowledge about HIV/AIDS among participants, their donors and the general public. Roadies may raise money if they wish, but are not required to do so.
The members of Team Colorado will be hosting several fundraising events throughout April and May and we are also currently taking donations online. To make a donation for an individual team member, please visit our Team Member Pages.
